This is an Italeri 1/48 scale plastic model kit. The kit comes with latest modifications. Decals for HMX-1. Optional position loading ramp, and optional position engine positions. The V-22 Osprey convertiplane is now being distributed to evaluation divisions of the US Navy and Marines to define piloting and use methods for this new, revolutionary aircraft. Thanks to its large, swing-rotors, the Osprey is able to take off and lands just like a helicopter. Once off the ground, thanks to the rotation of its engines, it flies like a normal plane, reaching the speed and range hitherto unheard of for a traditional "chopper". The V-22 is set to replace the old CH-46s as a transport and assault aircraft for the Marines, and in future, it will be used for the Special Forces' aviation too.
Skill level 2
The Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey is an American multi-mission, tiltrotor aircraft with both a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) and short takeoff and landing (STOL) capability. It combines the functionality of a conventional helicopter with the long-range, high-speed cruise performance of a turboprop aircraft. It's the first aircraft designed from the ground up to meet the needs of all four U.S. armed services. The tiltrotor aircraft takes off and lands like a helicopter. Once airborne, its engine nacelles can be rotated to convert the aircraft to a turboprop airplane capable of high-speed, high-altitude flight. It offers increased speed because it's twice as fast as a helicopter, much longer range resulting in greater mission versatility than a helicopter and can be used for amphibious assault, combat support, long-range special ops infiltration and exfiltration, transport, search and rescue, medevac and, even tanker capability. The V-22 Osprey can transport 24 combat troops, 20,000 pounds of internal or up to 15,000 pounds of external cargo using its medium lift and vertical takeoff and landing capabilities and meets U.S. Navy requirements for combat search and rescue, fleet logistics support and special warfare support and matches the U.S. Special Operations Command's requirement for a high-speed, long-range, vertical lift aircraft. It has air-to-air refueling capability, the cornerstone of the ability to self-deploy can be stored aboard an aircraft carrier or assault ship because the rotors can fold and the wings rotate. Italeri's new kit is a scale modelers dream, it's the US Marines Aviation Development Aircraft, with detail and accuracy both inside the fuselage and out. Detailed cockpit, rotors landing gear, hatches are all there and the model can be built with the engine nacelles in vertical or horizontal position. Precise painting instructions and accurate decal set complet the kit. (Crew not included).
